Today women are able to Dream Bigger and Bolder than our mothers, grandmothers, or even our great grandmothers.
In Whitney Houston’s song I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” she speaks of her challenges, setbacks, pain, her dreams, her faith, hope, disappointments, and survival — but at the end of the song, the last two verses are what make the song amazingly Powerful – “I was not built to break – I got to know my own strength.”
This song is one of my top motivational songs to-date. It’s a Powerful Uplifting Story in Song, sung by a PowerHouse in her own right – one of the greatest females entertainers of all time.
For years women have been told by men what their role is in life as well as in business and for years women have believed them. Today, I pay homage to all the great sheros who came before me – some of them were quiet, while other’s were rebels with a cause, fighting for the rights of girls and women. Thank you – for passing the torch – because the fight continues in leadership positions, politics, in the boardroom, and let’s not forget, in pay.
We have come a long way though —
According to the The American Express OPEN 2016 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report — as of 2016, it is estimated that there are now 11.3 million (11,313,900) women-owned businesses in the United States, employing nearly 9 million people (8,976,100) and generating over $1.6 trillion ($1,622,763,800,000) in revenues.
Women now make up the majority of business owners in the country by 38%, up from 9% from 2007.
Women Entrepreneurs of Color – in that same report, there were less than 1 million firms owned by Women of Color. In 2016 however, there are approximately 1.9 million firms owned by African American Women and they are earning approximately $51.6 billion in revenue.
The growth trend among African American Women Entrepreneurs from 2007 to 2016 increased by 112%. Latina-owned firms also experienced significant growth, earning $97 billion in revenue in 2016.
Little girls – Dream Big!

There has never been a better time to be a Girl or a Woman than right now. The dreams and visions that you think about daily, they are yours for the taking, your aspirations, ambition, and life goals are possible to those who dare to put in the hard work.
Power to Overcome Negativity
And, for those individuals who find it necessary to persuade little girls and women not to go after their goals and dreams or think it appropriate for them to settle for being less than their very best – ponder this quote:
Never grant someone – who is not you – the Power to Control You – by Victoria M. Parham, Life Coach Click To TweetPower to Win
Whatever your Dream is ladies, go after it with passion and determination – you have it within you to make that dream, your present day reality.
